About me
Welcome!
Hello, I’m Jane.
I am a BACP-registered psychotherapeutic counsellor with over ten years of experience supporting adults through life’s challenges. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel like a significant step, and finding the right therapist is an important part of that process.
When we feel safe, heard and understood, space opens for reflection, growth and change.
My professional journey began at Chichester Counselling Services, where I gained valuable experience working with adults facing a wide range of emotional and relational difficulties. Over time, I felt drawn to offering a more flexible and personalised approach, which led me into private practice.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 15 years working at Orbital Sound, a company specialising in sound for theatre, live events, and performance. Working within this environment gave me a strong appreciation for how atmosphere, pace, and setting can shape how something is experienced and felt. This continues to inform my work today, deepening my sensitivity to how people process and express emotion.
I now work online via secure video conferencing, offering individual counselling for adults aged 18 and over across the United Kingdom and countries within the European Union. I offer both time-limited and open-ended therapy, depending on your needs.
Alongside online work, I also offer Walk & Talk therapy sessions locally, where sessions take place outdoors while walking side-by-side. For some, this can feel more relaxed and less intense than sitting face-to-face, allowing conversation to unfold more naturally in a calm, grounded setting.
If you would like to explore this way of working, you can find out more about Walk & Talk Therapy.
I am also a qualified Move-Assure Mental Wellbeing Coach, an approach that brings together movement, music, and emotional wellbeing. While this is not something I offer as a standalone service, it continues to inform my practice – particularly in recognising the connection between body and mind, and the role that movement can play in supporting emotional wellbeing.
Since the pandemic, I moved away from face-to-face sessions and now work remotely. I believe online therapy offers greater flexibility and can make accessing support more manageable within the demands of everyday life.
Counselling with Jane
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, and this understanding forms the foundation of my work. A psychodynamic approach recognises that our early experiences, relationships and environments shape who we are and how we relate to others. Together, we may gently explore how past experiences influence present thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour.
Alongside this, I work integratively, drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches to ensure our work together is tailored to your individual needs. Therapy is not “one size fits all”; it should adapt to the person.
Where appropriate, I can also integrate somatic EMDR-informed interventions. This approach acknowledges that experiences can be held not only in the mind but also in the body. Working in this way can help process difficult experiences safely and support emotional regulation and overall wellbeing.
At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship. I aim to offer a secure and supportive base from which your self-awareness can deepen, resilience can grow, and meaningful change can emerge.
Understanding Growth and Self-Awareness
Who we are is shaped by our experiences, relationships and the environments in which we grow up. As we gain insight and awareness, we can begin to see these influences more clearly. They impact the adults we become and how we connect with others — in our intimate relationships, at work and within our families.
Self-awareness is the seed of growth; we cannot change what we are not aware of. As I get to know you, I support you in reconnecting with your authentic self, strengthening your relationships and developing a more compassionate and accepting relationship with yourself.
The journey toward awareness and self-acceptance can sometimes feel unsettling. Therapy may invite us to step beyond familiar patterns and outside our comfort zones. While this process can be challenging, it can also be deeply rewarding. Exploring — and at times gently challenging — thoughts, feelings and behaviours is an important part of our work together.
It is natural to want to avoid certain emotions, particularly when they feel intense or overwhelming. Yet approaching these feelings with compassion and courage can create powerful opportunities for healing. Over time, greater self-awareness can strengthen confidence and self-belief, allowing emotions to feel more manageable and less frightening.
We all have the capacity to adapt and grow. By creating a supportive space to explore thoughts, emotions and beliefs that may feel limiting, new perspectives can begin to emerge. Practising self-compassion strengthens resilience. In my experience, developing self-awareness opens the door to self-discovery and new possibilities.
Perhaps you long for a different perspective on your life but feel unsure how to move towards it.
Psychodynamic counselling can support you in developing deeper awareness, self-acceptance and personal responsibility. Rather than offering advice, therapy helps you discover your own answers and feel more confident in your choices.
As your understanding deepens, this can begin to shape the way you relate to both yourself and others, allowing for more balanced and fulfilling relationships. Recognising what truly matters to you opens the possibility of creating a life that feels more meaningful and authentic.
There is an element of trust in this process — trust in yourself, in the therapeutic relationship, and in what can unfold within the space between two people working together.
“We are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship, and we can be healed in relationship.” — Harville Hendrix
